We clear cargo through customs at Tanzanian ports.

Clearing goods through customs takes paperwork and time, and a mistake in the entry can hold cargo at the port. Our team has extensive knowledge of the local regulatory environment and years of experience to ensure seamless clearing and to identify potential issues before they arise.

We prepare the documents, get the duties and taxes assessed and have the cargo released from the port or ICD, ready for delivery.

  • Import clearance

Tariff classification, valuation, lodging the entry, duty and tax assessment, and release.

  • Export clearance

    Export entries, inspections and certificates.

How does customs clearing work?

  1. 01

    Pre-alert

You share shipping documents; we carry out a comprehensive document review to ensure accuracy and compliance.

  2. 02

    Lodge & assess

Entry lodged; duties and taxes assessed and shared for payment.

  3. 03

    Verify & release

Inspection attended where required; cargo released from port or ICD.

  4. 04

    Deliver

The cargo goes onto our trucks, or we hand it to your transporter, and we provide proof of delivery or evidence of handover.

Getting the entry right

Delays at the port often come from the paperwork: a wrong tariff code, a value that does not match the invoice, or a permit that is not in place. We check the classification and valuation before the entry is lodged, so problems are found early.

We work closely with the government agencies involved in clearing goods and keep up with changes to customs regulations.

Each client has one contact person who handles the shipment from pre-alert to release, and we keep records of every shipment we clear for you.

What documents are needed for customs clearing?

Send us these as soon as the cargo is booked. That way we can check them before the cargo arrives.

  • Bill of Lading
  • Commercial invoice
  • Packing list
  • Certificate of origin
  • Import permits, where applicable
  • Importer TIN details
  • Cargo-specific documentation, where applicable

Frequently asked questions

How long does clearing take?

It depends on the cargo, the documents and whether customs inspect it. Sending the documents early is the simplest way to avoid delays.

When do I pay duties and taxes?

Customs assesses the duties and taxes on the entry. We share the assessment with you, and the cargo is released once they are paid.

What happens if customs inspect my cargo?

We attend the inspection at the port or ICD and deal with any questions from the officers. The cargo is released once the inspection is done.

Do Kushinda Logistics clear exports as well as imports?
